FAST TRACK WEST BANK
- 2014 - 2015 -
The West Bank would be a perfect place to travel due to his beautiful landscapes and roads, most of them quite empty. As a foreigner I travelled intensively throughout the West Bank without any kind of restriction. But for Palestinians and also for Israelis is not the same.
Since the 1993 Oslo Accords, the Palestinian Authority officially controls a geographically non-contiguous territory comprising approx. 11% of the West Bank (known as Area A) which remains subject to Israeli incursions. Area B (approx. 28%) is subject to joint Israeli-Palestinian military and Palestinian civil control Area C (approx. 61%) is under full Israeli control. The Israeli government created a closure system including check points, barriers, concrete walls to protect Israelis from Palestinian attacks.
As a result there are roads restricted to Palestinian access, roads restricted to Israelis, other shared. In addition check points and the separation wall have converted few minutes of movements in exhausting hours of waits, cutting Palestinian access to health and education services, places of work and religious sites.
