THE STONES OF NORCIA
On October 30, 2016, at 7:41 a.m., a 6.5 magnitude earthquake hit the town of Norcia, in the middle of Italy. It was the most powerful earthquake to hit Italy since 1980 and it followed two other shakes of some previous day. No casualties were reported but several injuries. There were registered extensive damage to buildings and the historic and artistic heritage. All major churches, including the Basilica of San Benedetto, have collapsed. The medieval walls that surround Norcia, have also suffered serious damage.
All photos were taken on November 17, 2016. The stones belong to the walls and the bordering houses.
